Peter Frederick Southwick ’43

Peter Frederick Southwick ’43 died September 17, 2013. Pete grew up in White Plains, New York, and graduated from White Plains High School, where he was a member of the student council and honor society. At Dartmouth he was a geology major and a member of Theta Chi and the Dartmouth Players. Pete received his B.S. from the Colorado School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1948 and his Ph.D. in geophysics from MIT in 1952. He retired from Gulf Oil after 30 years in various departments. His responsibilities took him to Iran, Texas and Pennsylvania, among other places; his last position was in research. After his retirement Pete and his wife, Jeanne, moved to Brevard, North Carolina. Jeanne predeceased him in 1999. He is survived by daughters Laura and Deborah and son Geoffrey.
