Raymond Donald Reich ’43

Raymond Donald Reich ’43 died February 3, 2014. Don came to Dartmouth from Yonkers, New York, after graduating from Gorton High School, where he played football and was a member of the drama club. At Dartmouth he majored in political science and was a member of Delta Tau Delta and Bones Gate. Don spent 40 months in the Naval Air Force as a supply officer on an attack transport. After discharge from the service he earned his law degree at Harvard and went on to work for 16 years at Mergenthaler Linotype Co. in various capacities. In 1965 he joined Airco Inc., an industrial gas producer, eventually rising to president. Don was also vice chairman of Orion Capital, an insurance holding company. After retirement in 1983 he spent several years as a consultant and then decided to practice law. He was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1990 and spent several years advising small businesses and real estate firms. Don and his wife, Connie, spent as much time as possible at their summer home in Point O’Woods on Fire Island, New York, enjoying tennis and swimming. They also traveled when time permitted. They eventually retired to Redding, Connecticut. Always active in Dartmouth affairs, Don served at various times on the Alumni Council, as a class officer on the executive committee, class treasurer, gift planning chairman and class agent. In 1954 Don married Constance Davis, who survives him with sons D. Bradford and Christopher ’80 and five grandchildren.
