Richard Marion Lansburgh ’43
Richard Marion Lansburgh ’43 died January 28, 2014. Dick grew up in Pikesville, Maryland, and graduated from the Park School, where he was on the student council and yearbook staff, a member of the Dramatics Club and played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. At Dartmouth Dick played lacrosse, majored in “Topical II” and was a member of Pi Lambda Phi. After graduation in December 1942 Dick joined the Navy, completed the V-7 program at Columbia and served for three years in the amphibious forces on fire-support craft during the Normandy invasion and in the Pacific theater. He visited Japan and China at the conclusion of hostilities. Back in the States after the war Dick spent two years in the building business and then joined the family-owned Raleigh Haberdasher, a well-known men’s and women’s apparel store in Washington, D.C. As vice president he was merchandise manager of men’s furnishings. Through the years six branch stores were opened in the Washington metropolitan area. Though busy with work and family, there was always time for tennis, power boating on Chesapeake Bay and watching sports on television. In 1959 Dick married Therese, who had children Randy and Debbie. Ever loyal to Dartmouth, Dick served at various times as Alumni Fund volunteer class agent, class officer, gift planning chair and as a member of the reunion giving committee. His wife, Therese, predeceased Dick, as did son Randy. He is survived by daughter Debbie, her two sons and three great-grandchildren.
