Russell Douglas Hemenway ’49

Russell Douglas Hemenway ’49 died on January 30 at his home in Rhinebeck, New York. After graduating from Dartmouth Russ studied in Paris, served in the Foreign Service in Greece and was a business and financial consultant in New York. Since 1966 he headed the National Committee for an Effective Congress, a powerful political organization founded by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1948 to support liberal Democratic causes and left-leaning candidates for Congress. He is survived by his daughter Anne and son Brent.
