Alan F. Wright ’51
Alan F. Wright ’51 died on January 1 in his hometown of Pleasant, South Carolina. He was a graduate of the Thayer School in mechanical engineering and went on to spend his entire working career at the E.I. DuPont Co. as a senior research engineer. Alan’s engineering and manufacturing roles at DuPont spanned a wide range of technologies and products, from atomic energy to textile fibers. His 38-year career took him to various major DuPont facilities in Virginia and South Carolina. In each setting he was an active church member, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and serving on the vestry. He was also a volunteer, especially in the Mended Hearts program at the local hospital, the Boy Scouts, the Lions Club and the Exchange Club. Family was Alan’s greatest joy. He and his wife, Barbara, raised four children and enjoyed seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His father, James Wright, was a member of Dartmouth’s class of 1919. As an undergraduate Alan was manager of the soccer team and a member of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers.
