Kenneth L. Michens ’76, a lawyer in private practice in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has been elected to the board of directors of the nonprofit Sustainable Energy Fund, created by the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy education.

William McDonough ’73, an architect based in Charlottesville, Virginia, has been named to The Vanity Fair 100: The New Establishment 2010 list (No. 84) and was named by DesignIntelligence magazine the No. 1 “role model” for sustainability. He “crusades with an uncompromising environmental credo—he believes in re-using just about everything,” according to Vanity Fair.

Lydia (Herman) Lazar ’81 has been appointed associate dean for recruitment and career development at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy Studies. She was most recently the assistant dean for international law and policy development at the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Rick Waddell ’75, chairman and CEO of Northern Trust, is highlighted on Fortune magazine’s “Top Performers: World’s Most Admired Companies” list. Waddell has worked at the Chicago bank—which took the No. 1 spot on the list—since he graduated from Dartmouth.

Laura Goodrich ’05 has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study economic development in Panama. The University of Chicago graduate student is pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology.

Ralph “Tico” Santana ’89, the former VP of marketing for PepsiCo’s Pepsi-Cola trademark, is the new chief marketing officer for Samsung Electronics North America, based in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey.

Brett Haber ’91 will be honored at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, D.C., Dinner of Champions in November for his success in athletics and contributions to community. Haber, an announcer for the Tennis Channel and sports director for Washington’s Channel 9, supports Children’s Hospital and has served for more than a decade on the board of the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation for Brain Tumor Patients and Their Families.
