Anthony Earle Lupien ’82

Anthony Earle Lupien ’82 died on April 11, 2013, after an eight-year struggle with young-onset Alzheimer’s. Tony was born in Panama and grew up in northern Virginia, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1978. Tony was a geography major at Dartmouth and earned an M.S. in geography from the University of South Carolina in 1984. Tony was accomplished in the field of geographic information systems (GIS). During his senior year he started working at Geographic Data Technology in Lyme, New Hampshire, as a map digitizer and then as a software developer. After graduate school he moved to Redlands, California, to work at Environmental Systems Research Institute, one of the premier providers of GIS software. In the spring of 1981 in Hanover Tony met his future wife, Miriam Feinstein ’84. Miriam writes, “[Tony] was the perfect husband for me [and] a wonderful father to our daughters Hannah and Rachel. Tony was fun, funny, intelligent and caring. He loved golf, reading, cooking and traveling. He was never happier than when we were on vacation in New Hampshire.” Bill Wheaton ’82 adds, “Tony had a great sense of humor. He exhibited a dry wit with lots of nuance and depth. He was a fierce, but fair competitor at golf, bridge, cribbage and any board game. In Mid-Mass, where we were roommates, we would play a ritual match of cribbage each evening before going off to study.” For more information about Tony, please visit the class of 1982 “In Memoriam” page at http://1982.dartmouth.org/s/1353/clubs-classes-interior.aspx?sid=1353&gi....
