Brian Hale Hewins ’64

Brian Hale Hewins ’64 of San Marino, California, was felled by brain cancer on February 9, 2013. Brian attended Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana, where he was active in student government and a member of the golf team. He majored in biology, taking all the premed courses, and took to the Dartmouth Skiway often to enjoy a favorite sport. Brian married his high school sweetheart a few months before graduating. After Dartmouth Brian attended Temple University Medical School. He interned at the University of Wisconsin for one year, then went into the Army. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he was a general medical officer for two years. He and his family moved to Los Angeles, where he was a resident in radiology at L.A. County Hospital before joining Arcadia Radiology Medical Group, where he practiced for 30 years. He retired briefly to Payson, Arizona. While there he helped upgrade the local hospital’s radiology department. Not ready to retire completely, he returned to practice in Torrance, California. Brian was an avid runner, participating in both the Boston and New York marathons. He also enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his family to numerous golf courses throughout North America. He also enjoyed art, music and theater, all readily available in Los Angeles. Brian leaves his wife, Bobbi, two daughters and eight grandchildren.
