Ronald Perry Roth ’57

Ronald Perry Roth ’57 died of cancer on May 28, 2013. Ron grew up on Long Island and came to Dartmouth from the Lawrenceville School. At Dartmouth Ron played football and rugby for four years. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi and the Dartmouth Outing Club. Ron headed west after graduating from Dartmouth and had a fascinatingly diverse career in California. Early on Ron had a distinguished career in the film and television business. He was an associate producer for such early Universal television series as Checkmate and the Fred Astaire Alcoa Premiere. He later produced the popular Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre. He went on to produce a number of made-for-television films as an independent producer. He also worked under contract for Metromedia Producers, Playboy Productions and Columbia Pictures, where he was a vice president. At Columbia he administered the entire television movie production effort. Ron continued to be involved in film production, but he and his wife, Wanda, moved to the mountains east of Los Angeles and began a career as successful homebuilders and real-estate developers in the Lake Arrowhead area. Ron also was an investment advisor and a professor at the University of California Irvine in screenwriting. “Ron was a man of diverse enthusiasms,” says friend Bob Adelizzi ’57. “He deeply loved his work, his friends, his sports (surfing and skiing) and particularly his family.” He is survived Wanda and children Mark, Catherine, Ashley and Jesse.
