Donald R. Gilmore ’48
Donald R. Gilmore ’48 of Erwin, Tennessee, died on October 15, 2013, in the Center on Aging and Health. Don came to Dartmouth in the summer of 1944 and went into the service later that year. After his discharge he returned to Hanover and earned his A.B. and then M.C.S. from Tuck School in 1949. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon/Sigma Theta Epsilon and Bartlett Tower Society. During his business career he was manager of the research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, vice president of the National Bureau of Economic Research, senior economist at the Committee for Economic Development, director of economic analysis for General Motors and vice president of S.C. Bradford & Co. He served as executive director of the New York State Constitutional Convention and had leadership positions with the American Legion, Rotary, Lions, Masons, American Economic Association, National Association of Business Economists and New England Council. His wife, Rita, died in the late 1970s. Don’s hobby of traveling the world was extended after he retired at age 60. By his 50th Dartmouth reunion he had visited 72 countries from Greenland to Tiera del Fuego and traveled extensively in Europe and Russia. He also enjoyed hunting and wrote a number of books.
