William J. Reid ’09

William J. Reid ’09 of Philadelphia and his loving wife, Jamie Soukup Reid, 25, also of Philadelphia, passed away on August 11, 2013 in Asheville, North Carolina, as a result of an auto accident. Will was born on November 2, 1986, to Dr. James and Anne (Myers) Reid of Phillipsburg, New Jersey. He was the valedictorian for Phillipsburg High School class of 2005 and earned his A.B. in German studies from Dartmouth in 2009. While at Dartmouth Will participated in the German foreign study program and won the German department book award. He was also an active member of Sigma Chi Tabard and worked at the Dartmouth Skiway. After graduation Will joined Teach for America in Philadelphia, where he met Jamie, also a teacher. Will and Jamie were married in Philadelphia on May 26, 2013. They held their wedding at the College of Physicians, because it was, like them, a little quirky. Will was most recently teaching sixth-grade math at People for People Charter School, where one of his students described him as “the best teacher anyone could ask for.” As one of Will’s friends put it, “The world has lost a force for good in the classroom and beyond.” Will is survived by his loving parents and siblings Patrick and Leslie. Memorial contributions may be made to the William and Jamie Reid Scholarship Fund for the Valedictorian, c/o Phillipsburg High School, 200 Hillcrest Blvd., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, with checks payable to Phillipsburg High School.
