William Thomas Fagan ’67
William Thomas Fagan ’67 of Honolulu, Hawaii, died September 14, 2013, in Del Mar, California. He came to the College from East Lansing (Michigan) High School. At Dartmouth Tom majored in history, was a brother of Phi Delta Alpha and a member of Dragon and Interdormitory Council and Newman Club; played intramurals and freshman football; and graduated cum laude with distinction in history. He served in military at the Defense Language School in Monterey, California, where learned Russian. Tom earned a J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1972. He worked in Boston, then New York City law firms in the 1970s. He moved in 1984 to Honolulu and joined O’Connor Playdon & Guben. He was an adjunct professor of political science at Hawaii Pacific University and a member of its international studies advisory council. His Hawaii Pacific University students honored him last year: “You guided us on our journey and pointed us in the right direction. We laughed, we loved, we cried. Best of all we learned.” Tom served as president of the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii and was a member of the Exchange Club of Bishop Street. Tom was a very competitive athlete. He loved music, regularly attending live music performances. Most remember him as a raconteur with a quick wit, never one to mince words or shy away from a debate. Tom was an excellent lawyer, a revered academician and a scholar. He is survived by his children Elizabeth ’93, Brian and Tim.
