Clayton Harlow Birdsall ’47
Clayton Harlow Birdsall ’47, D.D.S., of Kingston, New Hampshire, died on August 23, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He grew up in Haverill and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the Navy V-12 program and majored in zoology, played football, participated in wrestling and joined the German Club. He went on to earn a D.D.S. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1952 and served in the Air Force and Navy, retiring as a captain in the Navy Dental Corps. He started his dental practice in Haverhill before moving to Plaistow, New Hampshire, where he practiced until 1997, when he retired due to ill health. He was active in the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants; the Kiwanis; Camp Allen in Bedford, New Hampshire, a camp for disabled persons; the Sons of the American Revolution; and the Belmont Dramatic Club. In retirement he enjoyed golf, skiing, the theater, travel and classical music. He is survived by four children and a brother.
