Thomas Wayne Norris ’82

Thomas Wayne Norris ’82 died on August 4, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He spent the majority of his youth in Orlando, Florida, and graduated first in his class from Trinity Prep School in 1978. He graduated from Dartmouth cum laude in 1982 with a degree in biology and earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1986. After completing training in family medicine at Richland Memorial Hospital, Tom practiced medicine in Columbia, South Carolina, for 23 years, most recently as a partner in rehabilitative and geriatric care at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. He was board certified in family medicine and geriatrics. Tom also served as a director of the hospital’s wound healing center and volunteered as a coach with a local youth soccer league. Tom is survived by his wife, Theresa (“Terry”), children Will and Maddie, mother Sarah and siblings Mary Beth and Robert. He was predeceased by his father. Tom’s mother, Sarah, writes: “His Dartmouth days were some of his happiest memories. He was always very intelligent and lived a happy, fulfilled life and really brought so much joy to those who knew him.” Contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Portal Mission, c/o Dr. Charles Petit, 1520 Whippoorwill Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169.
