Allen Howard Stowe ’60

Allen Howard Stowe ’60 of Vero Beach, Florida, and Normandy Beach, New Jersey, died August 5 in Vero Beach from complications related to pancreatic cancer. “Tuff” was born July 31, 1937, in Oak Park, Illinois, to William and Darleen Stowe. He was a graduate of the Kent School, Dartmouth, Tuck School of Business School (class of 1961) and the University of Virginia Law School (class of 1964). He used this educational foundation to practice law, establish and manage companies and successfully make his way in the world. However, he said his most direct purpose was “to care for his loved ones in the best possible way while enjoying life responsibly.” By all accounts, he achieved this goal. He was renowned for his unique ability to seamlessly intertwine disparate groups of people—whether they were from Bronxville, New York, Ridgewood or Princeton, New Jersey, Hanover, Normandy, France, or Vero Beach—into a cohesive band of revelers. His leadership in this area will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; children Christopher, Denby, Jonathan, Marcy, Laurie and Chris; their spouses Robert, Barbara, Jim, Tom and Marci; 16 grandchildren; three siblings; and a legion of friends. A celebratory memorial service was held October 4 at Rollins Chapel at Dartmouth College. The family asks that any donations in his memory be made to VNA Hospice House, 901 37th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
