Richard Paul Brief ’55
Richard Paul Brief ’55, Ph.D., died on May 24. Dick came to Dartmouth from Maplewood, New Jersey, having graduated from Columbia High School. He was a member of Pi Lambda Phi and Air Force ROTC. Dick received an A.B. in 1955 and an M.B.A. from Tuck in 1958. After receiving a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University in 1964, he taught at New York University retiring after 45 years as professor in the Stern School of Economics. Dick was an editor of some 200 books on accounting history and thought. He is survived by his wife, Jean, children Todd and Kristin ’03, three grandchildren, cousins Arnold ’57, Donald ’54 and Julie Schwarz ’78. Notification of Dick’s death was received from Dick DuBoff ’55, who describes him as his former roommate and oldest friend.
