Kimberly Akemi Bal Sloper ’97

Kimberly Akemi Bal Sloper ’97 died at her home in Wailuku, Hawaii, on October 9, 2012, following a battle with breast cancer. Born in Wailuku on January 21, 1975, Kim left her native Hawaii to attend Dartmouth, where she majored in economics and was involved in the Women in Science Project, Dartmouth Wind Symphony and student workshops and was a member of Sigma Delta/Sigma Kappa. She also traveled to France on language study abroad. Following graduation Kim attended law school at the University of Arizona and then returned to Maui, Hawaii, to serve as an attorney for the County of Maui corporation counsel. Friends described Kim as a “bright, beautiful, peaceful and loving person.” Kim is survived by her husband, William; daughters Caroline, Emily and Olivia; father Eugene Bal III and his wife, Beryl; and grandparents Masae Murakami, Patricia Bal and Eugene Bal Jr. and his wife, Peggy.
