John Figgis Jewett Jr. ’68

John Figgis Jewett Jr. ’68 died peacefully on April 27 in La Mesa, California. He was the son of Dr. John Figgis Jewett ’35. Born in Boston, “Jeff” was raised in Needham, Massachusetts, and graduated from the Nobel and Greenough School. At Dartmouth he was active in the Dartmouth Christian Union and Ledyard Canoe Club. He participated in prison counseling and the Talladega Project and was part of the Coeducation Committee. After Dartmouth he attended a year of seminary training at the Union Theological Seminary. In 1971 Jeff married Susan Good, and moved to Saxtons River, Vermont, where they raised three children. That marriage ended in divorce. In 1994 Jeff moved with Norene Ennis—whom he married in 1996—to East Putney, Vermont, where they lived until 2010, when they moved to Temecula, California. His working career included working for the State of Vermont, the U.S. Postal Service and cabinet design firms until retiring. Jeff loved people, words, sailing, bicycling, found objects and philosophy. He is survived by Norene and children Ivan, Phoebe and Alexander.
