D. Quigg Porter Jr. ’57

D. Quigg Porter Jr. ’57 passed away on March 28. He came to Dartmouth from Winnetka, Illinois, where he graduated from the New Trier School. At Dartmouth he belonged to Beta Theta Pi, Dragon, the swim team and naval ROTC. After serving in the Navy he returned to Tuck to earn his M.B.A. Quigg spent his entire business career at the Northern Trust Co. During his career he was an active participant in the American Banking Association and was appointed in an advisory capacity to the U.S. Department of Labor. He retired as a senior vice president in 1994. Quigg was an avid fly fisherman and was constantly in search of a still pond upon which to cast one of his hand-tied flies. Whether traveling to Alaska, Virgin Gorda, Patagonia or the Connecticut shore, there was always room in his bag for his fly rod. He inspired the love of the outdoors in his children and his extended family. This passion was evidenced in his membership in the Sierra Club, the Pere Marquette Rod and Gun Club and the Anglers’ Club of Chicago and in his coveted collection of antique fly reels. Quigg is survived by his wife, Joan, three daughters and seven grandchildren.
