Howard Randall Deming ’55
Howard Randall Deming ’55, M.D., died peacefully with his family at his bedside on May 5. A Vermonter by birth, he attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and for one year Hotchkiss School before matriculating at Dartmouth. Randy majored in zoology and was a member of the German Club and Sigma Nu. After graduation he attended the University of Vermont Medical School, receiving an M.D. in 1959. Internship and residency followed in radiology at Vermont and the Children’s Hospital in Boston. From 1963 to 1965, as a lieutenant commander, Randy was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, returning to the Maine Medical Center following his tour. He spent 30 years practicing radiology at Maine Medical, specializing in the field of neuro-radiology and computerized tomography. He was chair of the Department 1984-1987 and also served on the Board of Directors of the Maine Medical Insurance Co. Randy served as President of the Maine Radiology Association and was a member of the American College of Radiology. Many hours of his time were spent with family and friends water-skiing, sailing, playing golf and tennis and skiing. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy, and sister Ann. Survivors include his second wife, Ann; children Catherine and Jonathan, Elizabeth ’79 and Laura ’83; stepson Charles Kessler ’94; granddaughter Amanda Dauten ’08; and son-in-law Kent Dauten ’77.
