Class of 1960
Class Notes
View All Notes for Class of 1960From co-head agents Ken Johansen, Phil Kron, and Jim Adler: “The class of ’60 again excelled in its support of the College through the Dartmouth College Fund. Our participation rate was 74.4 percent, higher than any other class and our 21st year in a row hitting 70-plus percent. We raised $434,706, shattering the year-out record for the 19th straight year. We had 58 classmates (14.7 percent) who were 1769 Society members, the highest percentage for all classes, even reunion classes. Thanks to every generous classmate who helped make it happen.”
Dan Wilkinson is still working every day and occasionally traveling to the Northeast: “Visited with Dick Petrie in July, playing music at the Kentucky Opry in August, and traveling to Napa [California] in early October for my annual participation in what’s known as the Oakville Sessions. Life is still good!” Jonathon Tuerk: “Cathy and I are still above ground, living at Riderwood, a continuous care facility in Silver Spring, Maryland. Having retired from a wonderful psychiatry practice in 2008, I have, on paper, time but have difficulty knowing where it goes. Cathy is still working a few hours a month. We recently returned from a month in Berlin and Norway. Berlin is certainly different from when I was last there in 1971—no wall, now full of life and light. The political scene here is intensely involving. On the other hand, my ‘organ recital’ is more like a symphony, but I hope I will be around a few more years.” Marty Zipser, who played both tennis and squash all four years for Dartmouth, sends the following: “I’m retired from general and trauma surgery since 2001—at which time I endured failed back surgery with infection. But from 2004 to 2022 I was medical director of an independent medical review company. Now I’m medical director for a free-standing multi-place hyperbaric chamber. Not much to do—every week I go in and sign the prescriptions for patients’ oxygen and take a session in the chamber. I’m bent over when I go, so I take my walker. Four kids and eight grandkids keep me going.”
