Grosvenor Edward Bryant ’52
Grosvenor Edward Bryant ’52 passed away at home in Orinda, California, on February 3, of a weakened heart condition. “Grov” was born and raised in Fair Haven, Vermont, and prepared for college at Kimball Union Academy, graduating in 1946. He was very active in sports, including captain of the baseball team. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving for 15 months before entering Dartmouth. He majored in economics and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi (including a term as house treasurer) and Dragon. After college Grov worked briefly for Scott Paper Co. in the East, but then spent the rest of his life on the West Coast, mostly in the San Francisco area. Grov’s successful career centered on the business of bulk liquids. In 1970 he and others bought Petromark Inc. a deep-water terminal, which they later sold in 1988. He also served as president of California Vegetable Oil Co. and, for a time, as president of Palmco, a palm- and coconut-refining subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp. He retired in 1996. In 1957 Grov married Beverly Nicora and they had children Michael, Eric and Ann. Sadly, Beverly passed away in 1992 and Michael died in an automobile accident in 1993. Grov is survived by his second wife, Patty Sanborn, whom he married in 1994. They had both lived in Orinda, California, for many years before being introduced by mutual friends. Together they have four children and several grandchildren.
