Albert L. Patterson ’51

Albert L. Patterson ’51 died on December 25, 2012, in Columbia, South Carolina. Al grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and came to Dartmouth from Western Reserve Academy. He transferred to Vanderbilt University, graduating from there in 1951 with a bachelor’s in psychology. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was cited for safely landing his crippled C-119 plane in Japan with 40 troops from South Korea on board. Al’s business career included service with Owens Illinois Inc., where he was general manager of Libbey Glass Envite Corp. and McCall Refrigeration Inc. He later started a personnel recruiting business in Columbia. He is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
