Susan McClary Keenan ’82
Susan McClary Keenan ’82 passed away on August 24, 2012. Born in White Fish Bay, Wisconsin, Susan came to Dartmouth from East Lansing, Michigan. She majored in government and was cited by her senior seminar professor for posing “penetrating and lucid” questions and writing with “rare quality.” Susan sang in the Glee Club, played squash and participated in a language study abroad program in Bourges, France. Susan was a loving and committed mother to son John and daughter Elizabeth Tichenor ’07, who survive along with her mother, Jane McClary, granddaughter Alice, son-in-law Jesse Tichenor ’06 and sister Ann. Her father, Andrew McClary ’50, predeceased her. Susan’s marriages to David Keenan ’75 and Mikel Tiller ended in divorce. Susan was a gifted educator. She started her teaching career in Grinnell, Iowa. At the time of her death Susan was a senior lecturer in accounting at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, responsible for teaching accounting to a large proportion of the freshman business students. At her memorial service the dean lauded Susan’s skills in the classroom, her love of learning and her enthusiasm for teaching, noting that Susan would be remembered also for the quiet good deeds that defined her life.
