Elliott T. Hersey ’55

Elliott T. Hersey ’55 died on August 30, 2012, in Concord, New Hampshire. He was born and raised in Winchester, Massachusetts, graduated from high school there and spent one year at Kimball Union Academy. At Dartmouth Elliott participated in the Woodsmen’s Team and joined the DOC, ROTC and Chi Phi. His father, Waldon, was a ’24. After serving in the Navy Elliott returned to his family’s dairy, Great Meadown Farm in New Boston, New Hampshire. He remained there as owner from 1957 to 1995. His first wife, Lois, died in 1991. He then married Alison Whittemore, who survives him. Always busy, Elliott served on several boards for his local school, library and Dairymen’s Association and continued activity for Dartmouth, especially after retirement. After Lois’ death Elliott and dog Isaac set out on a seven-month, 30,000-mile trip in the United States. He joked that he was always surrounded by women—three sisters, five daughters, two stepdaughters and a herd of dairy cows. He is survived by his second wife, his sisters, daughters, stepdaughters and 11 grandchildren.
