William Salvatore Calli ’45
William Salvatore Calli ’45 of New Hartford and Old Forge, New York, passed away unexpectedly September 17, 2012, at State University of New York Upstate Medical University as a result of injuries he incurred in a motor vehicle accident. He was born in Utica, New York. Bill came to Dartmouth from Utica Free Academy. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and then attended Albany Law School, where he was awarded his juris doctorate in 1949. On May 29, 1954, he married the former Ann Dunn, who predeceased him in 1993. In 1950, at the age of 26, Bill was elected to the New York State Assembly, a position he held for 14 consecutive years. Thereafter he was elected to the New York State Senate. In 1980 he was appointed as Oneida County attorney, a position that he retained for 13 years while operating his private law firm, which he had established in 1949. He was with Calli and Calli, then Calli, Calli and Cully for 63 years. William was also a member of and affiliated with a host of civic and community organizations, a parishioner of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Old Forge. William is survived by his sons Robert and William, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
