William Sheldon Bronk ’55

William Sheldon Bronk ’55, M.D., passed away on July 13, 2012, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vermont. Bill graduated from Pelham (New York) High School, and subsequent to Dartmouth received his M.D. from Albany Medical College in 1959. At Dartmouth he was a member of Delta Tau Delta and the commodore of the College Yacht Club in his senior year. After serving in the Air Force for two years he returned to Albany, New York, for his residency and a fellowship in orthopedic surgery. Bill practiced his specialty for 35 years in Glens Falls, New York. During those years his love for classical music led him to be a board member of the Lake George Opera. Always a sailor, he raced Lightening Class boats on Long Island Sound, sailed competitively while at Hanover and continued racing at the Lake George Club for many years. Fishing was a byproduct of his love for the water. Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Genevieve; children Derek ’83, William ’92 and Emily; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Kirsten. A memorial service was held July 28, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls, where he was an elder for many years. Always having a love for the College, Bill interviewed candidates for many years and was a district enrollment director until 2007.
