Roy Elvin Wikstrom ’52
Roy Elvin Wikstrom ’52 of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on September 17, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from high school in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1946. He then entered the U.S. Navy for two years before coming to Dartmouth, where he majored in history, was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, served as business manager of the Jack-o-Lantern and was a member of Green Key. He and his wife, Shirley, were married shortly after graduation in 1952, but their marriage ended in 1978 and Roy never remarried. After college he entered the insurance business, first in the Northeast and later in Odessa, Texas. After 30 years he changed course and began a second career of purchasing, remodeling and selling homes, thus satisfying both his love of woodworking and helping others. He lived for a number of years in the Austin, Texas, area, and moved to Santa Fe in 2004 to be nearer his family. Roy was a very strong individualist, true to his beliefs, proud of his support of people less fortunate and an advocate for issues of social justice. He spoke his mind and he was consistent in his message. He was close to his family, and his children Karin, Chrysa, Jenifer and Paul survive him, as do four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and his dear friend of some 32 years, Ginnie Fowler.
