Edward Robert Haskell ’52

Edward Robert Haskell ’52 of Dataw Island, South Carolina, passed away on September 9, 2012, at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine. Ted grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, and came to Dartmouth from Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont. He was originally admitted as a member of the class of 1950, but served for two years in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the class of 1952. Ted, by his own admission, had a rough start in college and credited his Marine Corps training in helping him succeed at Dartmouth. He majored in sociology, was a member of Psi Upsilon and excelled as a varsity hockey player. Following college Ted entered into the office systems business with his father, and later one of his sons, and grew that business, Systems Automation Inc. (SAI), for the next 46 years. SAI was a leader in New England high technology development for the office.
