Jack Nathan Hunter ’59

Jack Nathan Hunter ’59 died on June 17 in Albany, New York. He entered Dartmouth from Spring Valley High School in Nanuet, New York, where he was in the orchestra, chorus and dramatics. At Dartmouth he was sociology major and a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa and the Glee Club. A seeker of truth and peace, Jack discovered transcendental meditation early in his life. He started his career in 1962 as a casualty claim representative with Hartford Insurance Group, moving to Royal Insurance Group as state agent in 1964. In 1968 Jack became an account executive at Allstate Insurance. He was with Revere Copper & Brass Inc. as its risk manager from 1971 to 1984. In 1984 he founded J.N. Hunter & Associates, a risk and insurance business. In his last few years he was a soloist at the First United Methodist Church in New Hartford, New York. His voice coach thought that Jack could have been a very successful professional singer, not only because of his voice, but also due to his stature and good looks. When Jack passed, he was serving on the finance committee of For the Good, a not-for-profit organization that benefits low-income families in the Utica, New York, area, and Landmark Education in Albany, a leading firm in the field of training and development. Jack’s wife, Guner, predeceased him in 1999. Their children Nicole, Brent and Elise, stepdaughter Meagan and life partner Kathy Hodges survive him.
