George Francis Benoit ’47

George Francis Benoit ’47, D.M.D., of Peabody, Massachusetts, died on December 18, 2011. In 1942 he joined the Navy as a hospital corpsman and was transferred to the Navy Dental Corps as a dental assistant. He qualified for the V-12 program and was assigned to Dartmouth. He went on to graduate from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He was commissioned as a lieutenant and served as a dentist in the Navy from 1951 to 1953. He set up private practice in Dedham, Massachusetts, where he practiced until 1993. He was a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society and enjoyed skiing, golf, baseball, football, hockey and music as well as his winter home in Orange Beach, Alabama. He is survived by eight of his nine children, his wife of 64 years having predeceased him in January 2011.
