Douglas D. Perry ’43
Douglas D. Perry ’43 died November 23, 2010, at his home in Bristol, Connecticut. Doug graduated from Riverdale Country School, where he was class president and member of the student council, school paper, football, soccer and track. Doug was premed at Dartmouth. He received his M.D. in 1945 from the New York Medical College and served his residency at the Grace New Haven Hospital from 1945 to 1946. Doug served with the naval dispensary in Washington, D.C., and on the USS Coral Sea from 1946 to 1947 with the Medical Corps. Following a residency at Bristol (Connecticut) Hospital, a pediatrics residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City and time at the Naval Hospital in Key West, Florida, Doug established a private pediatric practice in 1953 in Bristol. He continued that practice until his retirement in 2000. Doug was a member of countless organizations including the American Medical Association and the Bristol and Connecticut medical societies and was a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was also active in Kiwanis, the American Legion, the USS Coral Sea Civilian Veterans Association and the Connecticut Wood Carvers Association. An avid wood carver, he also enjoyed fishing and gardening. In 1944 he married Jane Balf, who predeceased him. Doug is survived by sons David, Mark and James, daughter Karen, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
