John William Shenefield ’54

John William Shenefield ’54 passed away on April 10 in Pacific Grove, California. Jack came to Dartmouth from Birmingham, Michigan, where he attended Baldwin High School. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1952 to 1954 and then attended Munich Technical University’s architecture program. Jack graduated from Dartmouth with the class of 1957. He was a brother of Theta Chi. He received his M.A. in architecture from Harvard in 1962. Jack worked for architectural firms in Boston, New Haven, Connecticut, and Syracuse, New York, until 1966, when he moved to San Francisco and then went to work for Bechtel as an architect for the new Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) International Airport and other projects. In 1984 he left Bechtel and worked as principal architect for development firms until 1997, when he ventured on his own. Jack is survived by his partner of 30 years, Joan Holtzman, and children Luke, Sarah and Cassandra.
