Robert Anton Roberts ’45

Robert Anton Roberts ’45 died February 19. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota; resided in Winnipeg and Toronto, Canada; and had come to Dartmouth from Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. At Dartmouth he was a member of Chi Phi and an All-American on the soccer team. In WW II he joined the Navy V-12, received a B.S. in civil engineering from Thayer School in 1945 and served on Guam in the South Pacific with the Navy Seabees until 1946. Bob then took a job as timekeeper for C.F. Haglin & Sons Co., a general contracting company, and rose to be its president in 1962. He and his wife, Eleanor, whom he married in 1950, retired in 2003 to spend time in residences in Naples, Florida, and Edina, Minnesota, where he enjoyed playing, coaching and watching winter and summer sports with his family. Bob was past president of the Minneapolis Builders Exchange and on the board of directors of the Interlachen Country Club in Edina. He was predeceased by Eleanor, and is survived by children Sally, Nancy, Tom and Jim, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
