Stanley B. Berenson ’37
Stanley B. Berenson ’37 died August 31, 2011, at his home in Marblehead, Massachusetts. He came to Dartmouth from Lawrence (Massachusetts) High School and majored in sociology, was a member of Pi Lambda Phi and participated in various intramural sports. After graduation from Dartmouth he attended Tuck and then earned his degree from Boston University Law School in 1940. He served as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps in the Army during World War II and later was the director of the Military Intelligence Association of New England. He was a practicing attorney in Boston from 1945 until 2004 and was a member of the bar associations for Massachusetts, Boston and Essex. He was a former chairman of the Town of Marblehead planning board, past president of Temple Israel and recipient of the interfaith Man of the Year Award. He played tournament tennis in Marblehead, winning many awards. He served his class in numerous roles, including as president (2002-11), head agent (2002-10), and member of the reunion giving committee (1987, 1997, 2001-03) and leadership agent (2001-06). He was predeceased by his wife, Constance. He is survived by companion Elaine Merkin; children Martha and William ’69; son-in-law Arnold; grandchildren Anna Berkowitz ’98, Benjamin and David; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Mia, Seth and Adam.
