Edward Z. Lieff ’63


Edward Z. Lieff ’63 of Mölndal, Sweden, died March 10, 2011, of heart failure in Gothenburg, Sweden. Ed was a brother of Tabard/Sigma Chi. In 1965 he “arrived in Gothenburg and stayed ever since,” according to his wife, Gunilla, a clinical psychologist. Ed took an early interest in computers, and computer technology became an integral part of his professional life. Ed was president of New Acoustic Systems from 1970 to 1978 and earned a master of science from Gothenburg University in 1981. He became a lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology from 1981 through 1986 and was employed at Systems Development Associates AB Innovationernas Hus at Chalmers, where he received the Chalmers Innovation Prize in 1993. Since 1998 Ed was also employed at Industrial and Financial Systems until retirement in 2004. Ed was a board member and secretary of Mölndal Hockey. In 1997 he received a Gothenburg Hockey Federation Grant for Services for Deprived Youngsters. Following retirement Ed was very active in politics and studied law at the University of Gothenburg. In addition to Gunilla, Ed is survived by children Cecilia, Alexander, Anna and Philip.
