Drew Edwin Waitley ’52

Drew Edwin Waitley ’52 passed away in Glenview, Illinois, on May 29, 2011, after a long battle with lung cancer. Drew was an active member of the class of 1952, both as an undergraduate and as an alumnus. He came to Dartmouth from Evanston (Illinois) High School and graduated with a Tuck degree. He was a member of Sigma Nu and Sphinx. He also was president of the Interfraternity Treasurers Council and treasurer of the Undergraduate Council and Paleopitus. He was chairman of the College Chest Fund. Following college Drew returned to Chicago and joined the Continental Illinois Bank, where he served for more than 30 years in a variety of domestic and international senior lending responsibilities, primarily focusing on the construction industry. He retired as senior vice president in 1987 and for seven years worked for an insurance company. In 1995 he returned to banking to start a construction and engineering division for LaSalle National Bank in Chicago. Drew was also active as a supporter of the Salvation Army and his local church, where he served as an elder and deacon. Drew is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, whom he married in 1956, children David and Jan, five grandchildren and two brothers.
