Arthur J. Hendler ’48

Arthur J. Hendler ’48 died at home in Jericho, New York, on March 8, 2011. He came to Dartmouth from Cornell University under the Navy V-12 program, received his A.B. in 1948 and master of science in electrical engineering from Thayer School in 1949. He spent the next 40 years as a civilian working with the government on defense and particularly aerospace projects. Art retired for one year, then he and his wife, Gloria, whom he married in 1956, moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where he joined the CIA for seven years as a consultant and mentor to the next generation. He retired to Jericho in 1996. Art thoroughly enjoyed Dartmouth, the ambiance and skiing. Gloria remembers taking the family to Winter Carnival as part of a skiing vacation. He is survived by Gloria, children Suzy, Kevin and Steven and seven grandchildren.
