Richard Dexter Stevenson ’47
Richard Dexter Stevenson ’47 of Marblehead, Massachusetts, died on August 13, 2011. He grew up in Winthrop, Massachusetts, attended Winthrop High School and came to college in the Naval V-12 unit. He majored in sociology, played football and joined Zeta Psi. He served in the Navy, retiring as lieutenant commander. He earned a master of education from Boston University in 1951. He served as principal at Canyon High School in Saugus, California, and in Sharon, Massachusetts. Until 1964 he was assistant principal and assistant football coach at Swampscott (Massachusetts) High School. He left to join J. Donovan Associates in fundraising for nonprofit hospitals, an effort that lasted for 17 years until retirement. He is survived by his wife and three children, including son Mark ’71.
