John Mitchell Weigel ’68

John Mitchell Weigel ’68 died in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on October 19, 2010, less than a year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His wife, MaryDee, wrote a poignant and touching diary of his illness (a link can be found on the class website, www.dartmouth68.org). John grew up in Colorado Springs, and at Dartmouth was active in WDCR, WFRD, the Aegis and Fencing Club. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, he received a master’s in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a second master’s in business administration from the University of Colorado. He was a long-time employee of Lockheed Martin technical operations as a software systems analyst. He was active in the Youth for Understanding Exchange Program, and through this program had an extended “family” of nine children. He and MaryDee enjoyed visiting National Parks, traveling and having fun with their grandchildren. He married Mary Dolores Crowley in 1983, and is survived by her, their son Timothy and five grandchildren.
