George Adam Simpson Jr. ’41

George Adam Simpson Jr. ’41 of Asheville, North Carolina, died on February 15. At Dartmouth George was active in outdoor organizations Cabin & Trail and Ledyard Canoe Club and was a Winter Carnival worker. He attended Dartmouth from 1937 to 1939 and 1940 to 1942, obtaining his A.B. in biology and education. During the war he served in the Navy in New Guinea, the Philippines, the Aleutians and the Hawaiian sea frontier. From 1946 to 1947 he took further premedical training at Wesleyan University and then obtained his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1951. This was followed by an internship at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover from 1951 to 1952. After a variety of positions, including a rural practice in West Virginia, public health and tropical disease research in Southeast Asia and a general practice in New York City, he eventually settled on a career as a medical director for various insurance companies and as an industrial consultant. George is survived by daughters Nelly and Ann; he was predeceased by son Peter.
