Henry Robert Torpey ’47

Henry Robert Torpey ’47, of Peabody, Massachusetts, died on April 6. He grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts, and his family relocated to Canada during the Depression. He returned to the United States and enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in a tank battalion in the Pacific theater. He attended college in the Marine V-12 unit, played hockey, joined Phi Sigma Kappa and attended Thayer School. He worked in the Boston area for several years as a licensed electrical engineer. In 1961 he founded Torpey Engineering in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he served as president until 1964, when the company was dissolved. He was a communicant of St. Richard’s parish in Danvers, Massachusetts, and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. For several years he volunteered as a youth hockey coach in Lexington. He is survived by his wife and five children.
