Stephen J. Wolff Jr.
Stephen J. Wolff Jr. died on April 4 at the Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, of respiratory and cardiac failure. Born in Montclair, he graduated from University High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, majored in biology and pledged Delta Upsilon. He was very active in the DOC as a member of Cabin & Trail as well as the Mountaineering Club. After graduation and a year at St. Louis (Missouri) College of Pharmacy he was accepted at Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Days after being commissioned an ensign he married Phoebe “Hughie” Reggio in December 1952. His tour of duty on a destroyer took him to the Korean theater among other stations. He left active duty in December 1955 but stayed in the reserves, attaining the rank of captain. He completed his pharmacy studies for a degree in 1958 and worked for Hoffman LaRoche until 1972, when he moved to the perfume business at Roure Bertrand DuPont and then Givaudan in Wayne, New Jersey, retiring in 1996. His retirement years were filled with service to civic and charitable organizations plus restoring an old family home in north Jersey as well as a 1941 Packard. In his 50th reunion biography he credited DOC activities for launching and maintaining his interest in conservation throughout his life. Hughie died in 2007. Surviving Steve are their children Stephen, Christine and Leslie and four grandchildren.
