Kenneth Favor Clarke Jr. ’52

Kenneth Favor Clarke Jr. ’52, a longtime resident of Southborough, Massachusetts, and Meredith, New Hampshire, died on July 28, 2010, in California, where he had lived for the past 10 years. He was born May 18, 1927, in Lexington, Massachusetts, served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, and graduated from Kimball Union Academy (KUA) in 1948. At KUA Ken was a member of the ski patrol, outing club, French club (president) and the senior council (class secretary). During his senior year he was voted “Done Most for the School.” He then attended Dartmouth and graduated with honors with a major in psychology in 1952. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Dartmouth Outing Club. After college he was the owner of Welder’s Supply of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Northeast Safety Products, Auburn, Massachusetts. He was also an active member and deacon of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Southborough. Ken sold his business in early 1980 and moved full-time to New Hampshire. He worked as a part-time teacher in the Gilford, New Hampshire, school system until full retirement. As a member of Meredith Lions Club from 1987 to 2000 he served as second vice president for the 1987-88 year. He then served as the club’s president for 1988-1990. He was also an avid boater on Lake Winnipesaukee and raced the famous Garwood boats with his father. In 2000 Ken moved to California to be near his family. Ken leaves daughters Wendy and Julie and one grandson.
