Robert D. Atwood ’42


Robert D. Atwood ’42 died at home under hospice care on October 27, 2010. He was born in Bocas Toro, Panama, where his father was a manager with the United Fruit Co. Shortly after his birth his parents moved back to the United States and settled in St. Petersburg, Florida. After graduation Robert served four years in the Army with the OSS in England and France during WW II. Until his retirement in the 1980s Robert owned and operated the Public Bonded Warehouse and Transfer Co. Inc., a local and long-distance moving and storage company started by his father in 1927. He was a long-time member St. Petersburg Rotary Club and was also a champion swimmer with the St. Petersburg Masters swim team for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughter Libby; grandson Andrew; stepchildren Susan, Nancy, Gail and Richard; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
