William Tracy Maeck ’43

William Tracy Maeck ’43 died December 5, 2010, in Arizona. At Dartmouth Bill was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, Green Key, Casque & Gauntlet, Interfraternity Council, Palaeopitus, Vigilantes, Glee Club, Student Organizations Council and crew. After graduation Bill joined the U.S. Air Corps as a second lieutenant, twin engine pilot. Upon discharge he returned to Dartmouth, receiving his M.B.A. from Tuck School in 1946. He married Gertrude Peterson that same year and for the next three years worked at Dartmouth as assistant to the president and business manager of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Bill then became director of alumni relations at Clarkson College of Technology for a year before moving to New York City to work with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Shortly thereafter he became director of public relations and personnel at the Stamford [Connecticut] Hospital and then joined American Cyanamid Co., where he worked for the research division. In 1960 he joined the Fairfield County Trust Co. in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was elected to the Weston, Connecticut, board of education and also served on the executive committee of the southwestern Connecticut Mental Health Planning Council. About this time Bill and Gertrude were divorced. In 1987 Bill retired from his last position as a trust officer with Union Trust Co. in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1989 he married Alexandra. Bill was class treasurer (1943-48), regional chair (1993-99), class agent (1984-88). Bill is survived by Alexandra, children Peter ’71, Kristen and Alexandra ’76 and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill’s brother Benjamin was in the class of 1950.
