Robert K. “Bo” Herr ’52

Robert K. “Bo” Herr ’52 passed away on September 26, 2010, at home in Little Silver, New Jersey, after a long battle with cancer and a full life in spite of a heart transplant some years earlier. He came to Dartmouth from Westfield, New Jersey, high school and graduated as part of the five-year Tuck program. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Sphinx and was a varsity football player. After college Bo served in the U.S. Army as an officer at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Hood, Texas. Following the service he married his wife, Emily “Em” Vondersmith, and joined Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. He spent 24 years at Chase as a corporate lending officer, first in the oil group and then with the shipping group. He then joined Paribas, a large French bank, where he was again a corporate lending officer. His last employment was eight years with International Shipbuilding Corp., using his banking experience on the borrowing side of the table. He was a member of the Rumson Country Club, the Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club and the Seabright Beach Club. Bo is survived by Em and their daughters Katherine, Elizabeth, Kristen and Megan.
