James Douglas Wilson ’59

James Douglas Wilson ’59 passed away on March 5 in Evanston, Illinois. Jim entered our class from the Mount Hermon School (now Northfield Mount Hermon) in Northfield, Massachusetts. He resided in 3 Fayerweather Hall his freshman year. While at Dartmouth he was a member of the Glee Club, DOC and Alpha Delta Phi. After his sophomore year Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army. For almost three years he was stationed in Germany. After the Army Jim enrolled at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Upon graduation in 1965 with a B.S. in accounting he joined Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, Michigan. After a brief time as an accountant at Ford, Jim, using his outgoing personality, moved into the labor relations area, where he held various management jobs at various Ford facilities (including Puerto Rico). He remained at Ford until his retirement in 2000. Jim enjoyed camping and had a passion for (and was very skilled at) photography. In 1999 Jim responded to an alumni survey that his interests included collecting Indian artifacts, film and environmental issues. Shortly after retirement he moved from Detroit to Indiana to be near his mother (who has since passed). In 2009 Jim moved to the Chicago area to be close to his daughter Cheryl and some of his grandchildren. His is survived by his daughters Julie and Cheryl, seven grandchildren and his brother Douglas. We know his spirit continues to live in the loving memory of his family.
