Robert Wilson Tirrell Jr. ’45
Robert Wilson Tirrell Jr. ’45, D.D.S., died peacefully December 29, 2009, with his family at his side. He entered the Dartmouth class of 1945, having attended preparatory schools in New England, Germany and New Jersey. After interruption by World War II, in which he served with the 3rd Marines in the Pacific, he graduated in 1947. He received his D.D.S. from NYU in 1951 and practiced dentistry in New York City and New Jersey until his retirement in 1991. He married Margaret (“Peg”) H. Morse in 1948. They had children Scott, Barbara and Gail and five grandchildren. “Doc” became a fellow in the International College of Dentistry in 1965 and a master in 1967. Both Doc and his wife, Peg, were avid and famous devotees of round dancing, having received much recognition and many awards and having led groups in this form of square dancing all over the country. After retiring to Waterford, Vermont, Doc became involved with the ’45 monthly luncheon, edited the ’45 newsletter and was co-chairman of the 60th class reunion in 2005.
