George Moulton French Jr. ’45

George Moulton French Jr. ’45 died January 23. He came to Dartmouth from Nashua, New Hampshire, as a graduate of Vermont Academy and the son of a member of the Dartmouth class of 1911. George was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. In 1943 he left College to join the 10th Mountain Division and the 11th Airborne Division. Upon returning to Dartmouth and President Dickey’s “Great Issues” course he became intrigued by psychology and its use in sales and personnel management. He was called back into the service for Korea to become a mountain training commander. George then married Mary Stokes and spent the next 30 years in a career with Pitney-Bowes Inc. in selling and sales management. He and Mary then retired to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, and a life of sailing, beach walking and some world travel. He is survived by Mary, daughter Ellen and two grandchildren. Son Mark predeceased him.
